the soviet Union strategy
In October, the Soviets tried to regain some of their lost territory with the help of the Russian winter. The Soviet Union's strategy was to pull every citizen father in the Soviet Union and burn their crops and homes. This strategy made it difficult for the opposing army to get to the center of the Soviet Union because of the frigid Soviet winter and the lack of supplies. The Soviets led a fierce counterattack. This counterattack made Hitler rule a retreat that later had the German army surrounded with few supplies and no where to escape.
german strategy
The German strategy was to attack the oil fields that were in to the Southeast after they planned an advance in October. By Mid-September 1942, the Germans firebombed and shelled the Red Army for more than two months. At one point, the German army had occupied 90% of Stalingrad.
